Non-Fiction Writing Competition: Inspire Us
Thank you for your interest in the Madeleine Milburn Non-Fiction Writing Competition. Entries are now closed and the winner and shortlisted writers will be announced on 1st September.
We are thrilled to open entries for our first Madeleine Milburn Non-Fiction Writing Competition. A world-renowned literary agency based in the heart of Mayfair, London, we represent a dynamic and award-winning list of authors published in the UK, US and international markets. Our agency offers the highest level of care to a boutique list of authors, working together editorially and developing their work across all media. We are dedicated to each talented author we represent, managing their writing careers with passion, skill and ambition.
As we broaden and expand our non-fiction list, we’re looking to find a stand-out, unpublished voice. The competition is open for books and projects across all non-fiction categories with the theme of ‘inspire us’. Whether it’s a new way of thinking, an unforgettable journey or an original piece of history, we want to be inspired by your true story. The winning entry will be written with wisdom and heart; something we can’t help but talk about and share, that leaves us thinking long after we’ve turned the last page.
The top three entries will be selected by the Madeleine Milburn agency for the shortlist. A winner will be chosen by the agents and editors in-house, and they will receive an offer of representation along with £100 worth of book vouchers from Waterstones. All three shortlisted entries will receive comprehensive editorial feedback from the Madeleine Milburn team.
We will offer representation to entrants whose writing we love. If you are offered representation by another agency while the competition is running, please let us know and we will withdraw your entry.
To enter, you must be un-agented and the work submitted must be unpublished (work from which an extract has been published in a literary magazine is fine). The prize is open to writers from anywhere in the world, but the work must be written in English. Entry is limited to one book per writer, and we will not be considering projects that have already been submitted to the agents at Madeleine Milburn. Competition entry is free.
HOW TO ENTER
Entries are open from 13th March until 30th June. The winner and shortlisted writers will be announced on 1st September. We ask for a cover letter including a brief author bio with contact details (including any online presence), a one-line elevator pitch and three comparable writers and books; a one-page synopsis and brief chapter outline; and a sample of 5–10,000 words. Please submit your work to us in Word-document format.
