With Christmas festivities behind us, it’s time to turn introspective and kick-start 2019 with a focus on health and well-being.
This book presents the ancient Chinese practices of qigong – or energy cultivation – as an art of nourishment. The idea of nourishment lies at the heart of qigong. Just as trees and animals seek substances that ensure their steady growth and health, the human body and spirit thrives on receiving proper nourishment.
Qigong’s approach to ensuring ample nourishment is based on nature and the idea of the Chinese Five Elements/Phases of wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Each element in nature relates to an organ and meridian system in the body. Qigong: Nourishing Practices for Body, Mind and Spirit will explore each of these elements as they relate to our physical, mental and emotional health. It will offer readers accessible practices, insights, wisdom that support our natural capacity for energy, balance and wellbeing.
