Seven Lies optioned by Drama Republic

We’re thrilled to announce that Elizabeth Kay’s gripping novel, Seven Lies, has been optioned for TV by Drama Republic.

Leading independent television production company Drama Republic won the fiercely fought over rights following an international bidding war. Established in 2013 by Greg Brenman and Roanna Benn, Drama Republic specialises in high quality TV drama, and is most notable for the BBC One award-winning show Doctor Foster, Golden Globe, RTS and BAFTA Award winning The Honourable Woman and the award-winning My Mad Fat Diary.

In more recent times, Drama Republic put out the BBC One show Wanderlust and Channel 4’s Pure. It will also produce the adaptation of bestselling author David Nicholl’s Us in the coming months.

Seven Lies, which will be published in 2020 in the UK by Little, Brown / Sphere and the US by Penguin Random House / Pamela Dorman Books, follows the toxic intricacies of female friendship…

If lies are dangerous then the truth can be catastrophic…

Jane and Marnie have been inseparable since they were eleven years old.

In their early twenties they fell in love with and married handsome young men. But Jane never much liked Marnie’s husband. He was always so loud and obnoxious, so much larger than life. Which is rather ironic.

Because if Jane had been honest – if she hadn’t told those lies – then perhaps her best friend’s husband might still be alive…

This is Jane’s opportunity to tell the truth and, as she narrates their shared history and unpicks each of her seven lies, she reveals the pockets of darkness that have infiltrated their friendship and the toxic secrets still bubbling beneath.

Elizabeth said of the deal with Drama Republic:“I am so thrilled to be working with Drama Republic. As soon as I spoke to Jen and Roanna, I knew that they were the perfect team to bring Seven Lies to life on screen.”

Drama Republic were equally thrilled:“Elizabeth Kay’s storytelling had us hooked from the first lie. Seven Lies is a mesmerising, smart and thrilling tale of female friendship and obsession; and the lies we are willing to tell ourselves, and others, to get exactly what we want. We can’t wait to bring it to the screen”

To date, Seven Lies has sold into 24 territories.

Elizabeth Kay started her career as an assistant at Penguin Random House. She is now a commissioning editor at Transworld while simultaneously pursuing her passion for writing.

She lives in London with her husband.
