Is it ever too late for the gift of goodbye?

Melissa Dance was eight years old when her mother died. They never got to say goodbye.

As an adult Melissa is called to a London lawyer’s office to be given a journal written for her by her mother.

A shocked Melissa tells no one about the book in which her mother Eleanor, writing in her final weeks, tries to explain why she chose to hide her terminal illness from her daughter all those years ago. Eleanor has things she burns to share with the grown-up Melissa: advice but also secrets…

Across the divide of time, the story moves between Melissa’s reading of the journal entries and flashbacks to the heart-breaking final months between Eleanor, husband Max and the young Melissa.

This is the story of a mother’s belated goodbye to her daughter and secrets that are, perhaps, better left untold.
